It has to be said that I live in an awesome part of the world and I realise that I am very lucky to be here. I don`t think I did anything really to deserve that – not consciously anyway, but here I am.
I often photograph weddings that are just a bit further down the coast, or even further afield. Not often my local beach or headland or mountain. The Tweed Valley offers so much but Byron shire is more well known, so I find myself there a lot. And I love it there too. But I do get really excited when I`m off to share in a wedding at Fingal or Cabarita or Hastings headland, at Dreamtime or Wooyung or Casuarina beach, at Wollumbin (Mt Warning) or Cram`s Farm or Clarrie Hall dam or Mavis`Kitchen, in Murwillumbah or Uki or Kingscliff or Hanging Rock or Tumbulgum or the Pinnacle. I consider them my local places where my family and I have had most adventures and our own moments over the last 15 years we have lived here. It`s where my heart feels most at home. It`s my community.
And its where Dom & Kat feel drawn too. A family holiday house with a view through the upstairs window to Hastings Point headland, where pandanus watch the comings and goings of the sea. Where they have seen their spot to marry and share something of themselves with their community of family and friends. I feel humbled to be a part of this day, with people with such beautiful energy and freedom.
